Climate change is the the biggest existential threat humanity faces lately. While scientific solutions will require action on a global scale, there are several actions you can choose to take in your day-to-day life to reduce your carbon footprint. Especially, you can change your transportation habits.

This guide will remind you some of them.

- Take a walk to some of your short-trip destinations. Roughly, you can walk a mile in less than 20 minutes. This is a great way to add exercise to your daily routine.

- Drive less. Take public transportation, carpool, rideshare or bike when possible. This not only reduces CO2 emissions, it also lessens traffic congestion. And also it gives you a chance to earn some GTASK

- If you must drive, avoid unnecessary braking and acceleration. Aggressive driving can result in 40 percent more fuel consumption than consistent, calm driving.

- Drive efficiently. Use the accelerator lightly, coast to red lights, stay near the speed limit, and park and go inside instead of idling your engine in a drive-thru.

- Keep the tires on your car properly inflated and get regular tune-ups. When your car’s tires are low on pressure, it has to work harder to move from one point to point another, wasting gas and increasing emissions in the process.

- Use alternative transportation (bus, train, carpool or bike) to get to work at least one day per week. Enjoy the chance to catch up on your reading instead of testing your patience in traffic.

- Keep the tires on your car properly inflated and get regular tune-ups. When your car’s tires are low on pressure, it has to work harder to move from point A to point B, wasting gas and increasing emissions in the process

- On longer trips, turn on the cruise control so you can save gas. Also, you can use less air conditioning while you drive, even when the weather is hot.

- If you will buy a new car, consider to get a hybrid or electric vehicle. although some electric vehicles are initially responsible for more emissions than internal combustion engine vehicles because of manufacturing impacts; but they make up for it after three years.

- If you fly for work or pleasure, air travel will be responsible for the largest part of your carbon footprint. Avoid flying if possible; on shorter trips, driving may emit fewer greenhouse gases.
